Building on the international success of the Fur Free Retailers scheme, multiple member groups of the Fur Free Alliance teamed up on September 1, 2008 to launch an online petition urging compassionate shoppers to sign in support of the animals, and to persuade even more retailers to pledge to become totally fur free.
The Fur Free Retailers scheme is an international project, organised by members of the Fur Free Alliance, to provide consumers with accurate information about a retailer's fur policy, allowing consumers to make an informed choice when shopping. The scheme works by establishing positive relationships with, and offering support to, those retailers who have committed, in writing, to a no-fur policy.
