An expert committee has selected the winner of the historically first Czech-Slovak round of the international art contest with an ethical point, Design Against Fur (DAF).

The winner is Alexandra Mikhailová, a student of the Industrial Arts School of Zámeček in Pilsen. "With respect to the elaboration, the originality, and the simplicity, Alexandra's poster was chosen as the clear-cut winner," explains the jury's foreman Tomáš Kopečný from the Scholz & Friends Praha agency (S-F) their conclusion.

The second place is awarded to Dominik Trusina, a student of the Josef Vydra School of Applied Arts Bratislava.

The third place is shared by Petr Kutek (Industrial Arts School of Zámeček in Pilsen) and Markéta Horáková (Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in Prague).

Besides, the jury decided to grant a special prize for Ondřej Slinták (Private Academy of Arts in Zlín).

"Above all, we appreciated that the author has deeply contemplated his proposal – there is a link to another presentation on the web page in the poster. The qualified committee does appraise this way of communication that is considered to be the future trend in advertising," adds T. Kopečný. The general partner of the DAF competition is ADOBE company who donates the major prize for the winner.

The DAF is an international graphic contest on poster designing. Students' task is to create an original poster that could be used by some of the world organizations for animal protection in their anti-fur campaign.

"The competition is structured in several levels. With national rounds being held only in some countries, e. g. in The Czech Republic. We have been coordinating the Czech round for several years already, but this year we have started organizing the competition also in Slovakia," appends Lucie Moravcová, the DAF coordinator for the Czech and Slovak Republic from the Freedom for Animals (FA) organization.

FA has been announcing the project in cooperation with The Fur Free Alliance (www.infurmation.com) since its beginning in 2003.

"The reviewing of Czech and Slovak posters is ensured in cooperation with the Scholz & Friends Praha agency," amends Moravcová. The expert jury was composed of Tomáš Kopečný (S-F), photographer Goran Tačevski, Michal Nýdrle (Nydrle Studio), 3D animator and film director Martin Duda, and Tomáš Popp (FA) and evaluated around 120 entries.

The awards ceremony will take place on October the 13th in the Velryba Café in Prague and will be joined with a vernissage of an exhibition of seals pictures from Canada by the famous photographer Nigel Barker. The evening will be guided by Petr Vacek.

All Czech and Slovak students' posters can be found in the Gallery at Svoboda zvirat
